Lifeguards help ensure that our members and program participants enjoy a safe, fun aquatic experience and are able to develop the skills and relationships they need to be healthy, confident and connected to others.

If you love the pool and want a great job in a great community, read below to learn more about how to become a lifeguard, develop additional skills/certifications and apply for job opportunities. Our Y locations offer lifeguard certification training and recertification opportunities for those who start working with us. Additionally, we have year-round job openings. Bridgewater YMCA

Lifeguard Training (Ages 15 years and above)

Learn the skills and knowledge to perform water rescues. Participants will receive an American Red Cross lifeguarding, First Aid and CPR/AED for professional rescuer certificate. Participants must pass a pre-test before taking the course. 


  • Lifeguard Pretest (Ages 15 years and above)

    Please register for your pretest. Once you pass the pretest, you will be enrolled in and charged for the next Lifeguard Certification course.

    Participants must swim 300 yards continuously as follows – 100 yards front crawl; 100 yards breaststroke; 100 yards front crawl or breaststroke. Swimming goggles may be used during the 300 yard swim. Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs. Candidates should place their hands under their armpits. Swim 20 yards, submerge 7 – 10 feet, retrieve a ten-pound brick, and swim 20 yards carrying the brick in both hands within 1 minute, 40 seconds. Goggles may not be worn during this swim.

  • Lifeguarding Certification Course (Ages 15 years and above)

    Learn the skills and knowledge needed to perform water rescue, as well as First Aid and CPR. Participants will receive American Red Cross Liefeguarding, First Aid and CPR/AED for professional rescuer certificates. Participants must be 15 years old by the end of the course and pass the pre-test before taking the course. The fee does not include the pre-test. The total cost of the course with pre-test is $325 for members and $375 for non-members; the balance will be charged upon completion to your chosen payment method.

    Course Cost: $300 Member | $350 Non-Member

    This is a 3-day course and attendance is required at all classes.

  • Lifeguarding Review Course (Ages 15 years and above)

    Update your Lifeguarding/First Aid and CPR/AED certifications. Curriculum includes testing of in-water practical skills, on-land practical skills and two final written exams. No classroom work, reading materials, or rescue equipment provided. Review materials before taking course.

    Cost: $150 Member | $200 Non-Member

Bridgewater YMCA is looking for mature individuals all ages to work the early morning shift (from 5am - 9am) and/or the day shift (between 9am - 3pm) who are caring, alert, and quick to respond.

Learn the skills and knowledge to perform water rescues. Participants will receive an American Red Cross Lifeguarding, First Aid and CPR/AED for professional rescuer certificate. Participants must pass a pre-test before taking the course.

  • Lifeguard Certification Course (Ages 15 years and above)

    Participants must first register for and pass the Lifeguard Pretest. Upon successful pre-test completion, you payment method will be charged the balance for the course: $300 for Members and $350 for Non-Members.

    Course includes Lifeguard, CPR/AED, and First Aid certifications. Curriculum includes classroom work, practical skills in the water and on land and two final written exams. Participants must be 15 by the end of the course. Attendance is required at all classes. 

  • Lifeguard Recertification (Ages 15 years and above)

    Update your Lifeguarding/First Aid and CPR/AED certification. (Please note: participants must attend all dates in range.)

    The class is open to participants who are 15 years of age by the last day of class and have current American Red Cross Lifeguard, First Aid, and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer/Lifeguard certifications.

    To enroll in the course, you must be able to demonstrate the following PRECOURSE SKILLS on the first day of the Lifeguarding course:

    Swim 300 yards continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing. 

    Candidates may swim using the front crawl, breaststroke, or a combination of both but swimming on the back or side is not allowed. Swim goggles may be used.

    Tread water 2 minutes using legs only. Candidates should place their hands under their armpits.

    Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. The face may be in or out of the water. Goggles not allowed.

    Surface dive either feet-first or head-first, to a depth of 7-10 feet, retrieve a 10-pound object, return to the surface, swim 20 yards on their back with both hands on object and face out of the water to the starting point with the object and exit the water without using a ladder or steps, within 1 minute, 40 seconds.
