Reducing the stigma associated with Mental Health isn’t easy, but we are committed to making strides. In collaboration with other local organizations, the Y has taken a leadership position to offer ongoing, sustained education to the community in hopes of educating individuals about mental health, building awareness, and connecting people to the appropriate mental health care providers.

MHFA is an evidence-based, public education program certification course that helps participants recognize, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders.

Achievers Day Program (Ages 18 years and above)

This program runs September through June.

Using the inclusive setting of the Y, the program offers unique recreational/social learning opportunities to participants by helping to train adults with special needs in pre-employment, employment and employment retention skills in a real world setting. The program integrates the most current research-based, field-tested curriculum funded by the US Department of Labor, Office of Disability Employment, called Skills to Pay the Bills: Mastering Soft Skills for Workplace Success. Participants will be evaluated to assess their appropriateness for participation in the program.

These programs have been approved by the Division of Developmental Disabilities and are eligible to support participants in the Real Life Choice and Self-Directed Day Services Program. These services will only cover days of actual participation.  For example, if the session is 8 weeks in length and 2 weeks are missed, the participant will be responsible for covering the costs of the missed days.  A bill will be sent for the balances due.

Saturdays in Motion (SIM) (Ages 3 years to 15 years)

Recently celebrating its 26th anniversary, Saturdays in Motion is the longest running recreational program for children with autism in the United States. Children living with autism and their families join together at the Y on certain Saturdays for two hours of recreation at Somerset Hills YMCA. This program is run by YMCA volunteers who carefully guide the children through an hour of gym time and a second hour in the pool. Siblings are welcome. This mission-based program is free to the community.

Media Coverage of Saturdays in Motion

In an effort to ensure that we have adequate space and volunteers, and to ensure safety, we require that every child participating in SIM be pre-registered for each event. Walk-in registrations cannot be accepted. Parents must stay at the Y for the duration of the program. Program runs Fall - Spring.

You may register by phone by calling 908 766 7898 or online.
