Martial Arts for Adults

Through Martial Arts, you will benefit by being challenged by experienced upper degree black belts, and as they spar against multiple opponents.

Somerset Hills YMCA

Tae Kwon Do/Korean Karate (Ages 4 and above)
Come enjoy “Family Exercise with a Purpose." Somerset Hills YMCA partners with the American Tae Kwon Do Academy (ATKDA) to offer classes in self-defense that foster goal setting, teamwork and caring for others. Pay one price, and take unlimited classes within your age group. Class prices are the same for Members and Potential Members.

Classes offered (Summer schedule June 24 - Sept 1*):


Tae Kwon Do/Korean Karate- Adults and Families (Ages 6+): Tuesday 6:30-8:15pm, Thursday 6:30-8:15pm, Friday 6:00-8:00pm and Sunday 10:30am-12:30pm in the gymnasium

The American Tae Kwon Do Academy has been providing classes at the YMCA since 1993 and has one of the largest and most successful Chung Do Kwan schools in the USA. In this class you can progress from white belt to black belt in a family environment.

“Tot” Kwon Do (Ages 4-6):

Tuesdays 4:00-4:45pm – Dance Studio

Sundays 10:30-11:15am – Dance Studio

Tae Kwon Do/Korean Karate for Kids:

Tuesdays 5:00-6:15pm – Dance Studio

Thursdays 5:00-6:15pm - Gymnasium

Tae Kwon Do/Korean Karate – Adults and families (Ages 6+):

Tuesdays 6:30-8:15pm – Studio 3

Thursdays 6:30-8:15pm – Gymnasium

Fridays 6:00-8:00pm – Studio 3

Aikido (Ages 13 years and above)
  • Aikido (Ages 13 years and above)

    This form of martial arts teaches techniques that help you to better control and redirect physical confrontation rather than blocking it. Increases stamina, flexibility and muscle development.

    Classes are 1 hour 25 minutes long.

Tae Kwon Do (Ages 15 years and above)
  • Adult Tae Kwon Do
    A Korean martial art that combines combat techniques, self-defense, sport, exercise, and in some cases, meditation and philosophy.

    Classes are 60 minutes long.
