Our fitness, personal training and nutrition programs connect members with shared interests in a supportive environment. Through our array of fitness options, we help to lower the incidence of chronic disease and to create a healthier community.

B. Fit Beginner Fitness Program (Ages 18 years and above)

At the Y, we make it easier for you to take the first step to a healthier life. Our free 12-week Beginner Fitness (B. Fit) Program, for members aged 18+, is a guided fitness program where you'll learn how to use the fitness equipment and how to exercise safely. Plus, you’ll have one-on-one attention from our Wellness Coaches to create a fitness routine that helps you reach your personal goals.

Dance Classes for Adults
  • Salsa Dancing and Fitness

    Learn club and social style Salsa through professional techniques taught by an expert dance instructor. Classes are open to men & women. Partner not needed. Class is 60 minutes long.

All members, 13 years and older, are encouraged to maximize their fitness regimen by getting a free orientation to all the fitness equipment in our Wellness Center. A Floor Supervisor will instruct members on the proper techniques for using the machines. Each orientation is about 30 minutes. Please wear comfortable workout clothes and sneakers.

LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA
A holistic, free, small group, 12-week strength and wellness program for adult cancer patients and survivors who have become de-conditioned or chronically fatigued from their treatment and/or disease. We help patients build muscle mass and muscle strength, increase flexibility and endurance, and improve functional ability. The program can also help reduce the severity of therapy side effects, prevent unwanted weight changes, and improve energy levels and self-esteem. Participants learn to develop their own physical fitness program so they can continue to practice a healthy lifestyle as a way of life. Certified YMCA fitness instructors are trained in the elements of cancer, post rehab exercise, and supportive cancer care.

    Join us monthly for nutrition seminars led by Samantha Nuzio, registered dietitian from the Hillsborough ShopRite. Running Club (Ages 13 years and above)
Somerset County YMCA’s Adult Running Club provides individuals with a fun,
supportive environment to discover and progress in the sport of running. Our USATF
certified coaches, Mark, Ali, Miriam and Jason, will prepare workouts based upon your
goals, whether you’re planning to run your first 5K or preparing for a marathon. Club
members will receive a free running club t-shirt. It’s a great way to prepare for
the Hillsborough Hop 5K on June 2. (Separate registration required).

  • Kinesis (Ages 13 years and above)
    Utilizing the Kinesis wall’s multi-functional equipment, this class enhances every exercise, from a simple squat to focused core stability movement. The set-up allows training for strength, balance, coordination and integrated movement all at once– elements that make workouts faster, more efficient and effective. Minimum 4 participants, maximum 5 participants. No classes the week of July 4th.  Classes are 30 minutes long.

  • Advanced Kettlebell (Ages 18 years and above)
    Join Beth Weinblatt, CPT for this small group training at Riverwalk that integrates cardio and bodyweight exercises to give you an all-around heart-pumping workout! Beth will focus on integrated breathing, movement and alignment to help you achieve your fitness goals. Minimum 4 participants, maximum 8 participants. Classes are 60 minutes long.

  • Sports Conditioning (Ages 14 years to 17 years)
    Proper sports conditioning is one of the safest and smartest things a serious athlete can do to maintain and enhance optimum performance. Led by trainer and Assistant Coach for Rutgers-Newark women’s soccer, Alexandra Nata, Sports Conditioning enables participants to gain the strength, power, flexibility and agility to do any type of sport-specific movement – even better! Minimum 4 participants, maximum 10 participants. No classes the week of July 4th. Classes are 60 minutes long.

Delay the Disease Classes
Somerset Hills YMCA now offers group exercise for people with Parkinson's disease. Delay the Disease is a fitness program designed to empower those living with Parkinson's disease by helping delay the progression of symptoms and successfully managing the disease. Members only.


  • Delay the Disease - Level 1
    Delay the Disease Level 1 is a chair-based class with no getting up and down from the floor. Classes are held in the Dance Studio.

  • Delay the Disease - Level 2
    In Delay the Disease Level 2, adults must be able to walk independently and get up and down from the floor. Classes are held in the Dance Studio.

  • Delay the Disease - Mixed Level
    All levels are welcome in the Delay the Disease Mixed Level. Classes are held in the Teen Center.

  • Recreational Walk

    This walk is an introduction to hiking and a great opportunity to enjoy nature while building your skills on the trail. Walk is at a moderate pace on flat to gentle rolling hills covering approximately 4 miles. Weather permitting. Wednesdays from 9:00am to 11:00am. Advance registration required. Free for Y members. $15 per event for potential members. Led by Mason Hoeller

  • Thursday Outdoor Adventure Fitness Hikes

    Build endurance on this vigorous hike covering 8 to 10 miles of hilly terrain. This hike is about 3+ hours and is for individuals who exercise 3 to 4 times a week. Weather permitting. Advance registration required. Free for Y members, $15 per event for potential members. Led by Mason Hoeller.

  • Tuesday Cardio Challenge Hikes

    Expect to sweat on this fast paced hike covering 8 to 10 miles (or more) of hilly to steep terrain. This hike is about 4 hours long and is for experienced hikers who have an established endurance base. Sign up is required; register at the Welcome Center. Weather permitting. Tuesdays at 9:30am.  $15 per event.

  • Yoga at Clarence Dillon Library

    Learn the basics of Yoga as a gentle, effective approach to being fit. Registration is required. Limited to 50 spots. TRX Suspension Training (Adult)
Reach and exceed your fitness goals with TRX Suspension Training. It leverages gravity and the user's body weight to develop strength, endurance, balance, flexibility and core stability. Regardless of your fitness level (a pro athlete or "out of shape"), TRX takes you to the next level. Conducted in small groups and facilitated by a certified TRX instructor, the class is geared to get you in shape quickly and effectively.

Kinesis

    Meet Casey Stahl, Somerville YMCA's staff nutritionist, at one of her upcoming Nutrition Workshops where she'll share tips to help you make healthy food choices to fit your life.

    Casey is a former national-level athlete and certified sports nutritionist who holds a B.S. in Nutrition from Arizona State University. She spent time as a chef and pastry chef, roles in which she learned that eating healthy does not have to be boring! Casey serves a variety of clients and believes that people of all lifestyles can benefit from healthier meal planning. It is her passion to help people achieve their health and wellness goals.

    Her approach is that everyone - and their lifestyles - are different! Everyone has unique needs and Casey works to help create individualized solutions that work best for each client.

    Learn club and social style Salsa through professional techniques taught by an expert dance instructor. Classes are open to men & women. Partner not needed. 5-week sessions.

    For members 13 years and older. Enjoy the health benefits of running outdoors in a very social environment. Saturdays at 7:00am (60 minutes). Held indoors in inclement weather.
