Somerville YMCA’s Veterans Appreciation Breakfast last week was a success and brought out so many smiling faces to thank and honor veterans from Somerset County! Veterans from several branches of the military were in attendance and enjoyed music, a hot breakfast and mingling with friends, some of whom they just met that day. A special salute to the U.S. Armed Forces was held, as well as a screening of the movie, “Sands of Iwo Jima.”
For the first time at the Y, the VA’s mobile Vet Center program was on site providing information about VA benefits and how the center is positioned to serve the community with mental health resources.
The Y is honored to hold this event each year to support our service members. YMCAs across the country have a longstanding tradition of supporting our troops in many different ways. Here at Somerset County and Plainfield YMCA, our donation drives allow us to collaborate with the community to provide much-need necessities to veterans in transitional housing. We also offer special military memberships that address the needs of families of deployed military members who live far from a military installation and require access to child care, community, and health and well-being programming.
We are here for our veterans at the Y, and we thank everyone who came out to our appreciation breakfast this week!
