ShopRite of Somerville Hepatitis A Notice

byJennifer Colodney |
  • Somerville YMCA
Somerville YMCA was notified on Wednesday, November 6th that deli ham in sandwiches provided to the Y by a member as part of our Spice It Up event from 6:00pm-7:30pm on Tuesday, October 29th originated from ShopRite of Somerville.
As members likely have heard in local news media, the New Jersey Department of Health issued an alert after a case of hepatitis A was confirmed in a food handler working at the in-store deli at the ShopRite on Davenport Street in Somerville.
The safety of our members is always our first concern. The health department recommends that anyone who thinks they may have been exposed should contact a health care professional immediately, and any items purchased from the in-store deli during that time should be thrown away. Anyone who ate items purchased there during that time and who was not previously vaccinated against hepatitis A is also advised to get the hepatitis A vaccine.
To our knowledge, potential exposure was limited exclusively to the event on Tuesday, October 29th from 6:00pm-7:30pm and there has been and no further risk of exposure to members at Somerville YMCA.
For more information, members are encouraged to visit the Somerset County Department of Health website or call the department's hotline at 908 203 6014.
If you have any additional questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact Eddie Norgard, Director of Membership & Programs directly at or 908 722 4567 x605.
