Basking Ridge, N.J., Sept. 6, 2019 - Somerset Valley YMCA Swim Team, based out of Somerville YMCA, a branch of Somerset County and Plainfield YMCA, is thrilled to announce that team member Matt Fallon has made it to the Olympic Trials.

The Olympic Trials will take place in Omaha, Neb., next June and this is where athletes will earn their spot on the U.S. Olympic Team and be able to represent the United States in the 2020 Summer Olympics.

On August 4, Fallon earned a USA World Junior Team selection in the 200 Breaststroke, breaking the New Jersey swimming record in the process at the U.S. Nationals. His time of 2:13.36 was 4th all-time in USA swimming for boys ages 15 and 16. He will be attending the World Junior Championships held in Budapest, Hungary, at the end of the month.

As a charitable organization, Somerset County and Plainfield YMCA’s cause is to strengthen community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Y’s swim teams help kids develop endurance, skill, physical ability and mental stamina through a supportive and wholesome social outlet that encourages excellence, teamwork and camaraderie.

The nine-time NJYMCA State Champion Somerset Valley YMCA Swim Team has over 400 swimmers who practice at the Bridgewater, Somerville, and Hillsborough YMCA branches. The team is led by ASCA and USA Swimming certified professional swim coaches, and is a Bronze Medal program recognized by USA Swimming as one of the top-200 teams in the nation. The swimmers ages range from 6 to 18 years and the team competes year-round in YMCA and USA-sanctioned meets.
