Somerville YMCA will be undergoing some minor facilities upgrades in the near future, beginning with the installation of an additional window in the pool area near the boys locker room exit.
On Tuesday, November 6, 2018 from approximately 8:00am until 3:30pm, bricks will be removed and the lintels set at the location of the new window. The new window itself is scheduled to be installed on Monday, November 12, 2018. Members can expect to see scaffolding and protective materials on the pool decks until this work is completed. Q: What type of work will be involved?
A: The facilities upgrades will include:
- Addition of a new window in the pool area
- Installation of an aspiration system
- Replacement of the door leading to the pool from the pool hallway
- Lowering of the sump pump
- Additional minor adjustments to the other existing pool doors
Q: Why is this work being done at Somerville YMCA?
A: The facilities enhancements we are making will ensure Somerville YMCA continues to be safe, secure and up to local municipal fire code standards.
Q: What is the timeline for initiation and completion?
A: Work will begin on Tuesday, November 6, 2018. The exact completion date is as yet undetermined as we await final schedule confirmation from multiple vendors necessary to complete the work required. We will keep members informed as soon as the completion date is known and promise to keep members up to date with any impacts to their routines along the way.
Q: Will this work impact how I utilize the facility?
A: While we do not expect to need to close any part of the facility at any time for these upgrades to be completed, members can expect to see scaffolding and protective materials on the pool decks while the new window is installed. Similar measures to protect members from materials and other hazards will be taken with the subsequent aspects of this upgrade project to ensure a safe experience for all members with minimal interruptions.
Q: Where can I receive updates?
A: Our Welcome Center staff will always have the most up-to-date knowledge of any potential impacts to facility usages and we encourage our members to check in with them whenever there is a question or a concern.
