Swim Lessons for Teens

At the Y, teens can learn to swim or improve their swimming skills in classes designed just for them. Y swim lessons are participant-centered and emphasize learning, not passing or failing. All ability levels are welcome. Swim lessons are tailored to age, ability, level of physical development and confidence in the water.

Pre-Teen Swim Lessons (Ages 9 years to 16 years)
  • Pre-Teen Beginner (Ages 9 years to 16 years)

    Equivalent to Youth levels: Polliwog and Tadpole. Participants will learn floating, breath control, and basic freestyle, backstroke, and breaststroke.

    Classes are 45 minutes long.

  • Pre-Teen Intermediate (Age 9 years to 16 years)

    Equivalent to Youth levels: Guppy, Minnow, Fish. Must complete 25 yds each of rudimentary freestyle, backstroke, and breaststroke.

    Classes are 45 minutes long.

  • Pre-Teen Advanced (Ages 9 years to 16 years)

    Equivalent to Flying Fish and Shark at youth level. Must complete 50 yards each of coordinated freestyle, backstroke and breastroke.

    Classes are 45 minutes long.

Teen/Adult Swim Lessons (Ages 14 years and above)
  • Beginner Swim Lessons (Ages 14 years to above)

    No prerequisite skills. For the beginner swimmer who may not be able to float independently, finds blowing bubbles a challenge and is fearful in deep water.

    Classes are 45 minutes long.

  • Intermediate Swim Lessons (Ages 14 years and above)

    Swimmers will learn to develop skills to make freestyle a more restful and relaxing stroke. Drills to work on rotary breathing, flutter kick, elementary backstroke and backstroke are incorporated.

    Classes are 45 minutes long.

Private Swim Lessons (For members ages 3 years and above)

Swimming is a vital life skill. Understanding water safety and how to swim minimizes the risk of drowning while building self-reliance. The Y’s skilled and patient swim instructors offer lessons for all ages and abilities.

    Classes are 45 minutes long.
