The Y offers valuable trainings for teens to develop skills that help to open doors to employment opportunities. Teens can get certified in lifeguarding, CPR and First-Aid.

CPR/AED Training

  • CPR/AED Full Class

    This American Heart Association BLS classroom-based course teaches how to recognize several life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR to victims of all ages, use an AED, and relieve choking in a safe, timely, and effective manner. Pocket mask and textbook included.

  • CPR/AED Review

    This is an American Red Cross review class for people who have current professional level CPR cards. Cards must be brought to class. Mask included.

    Classes are 2 hours 30 minutes long.

Lifeguard Training (Ages 15 years and above)

Learn the skills and knowledge to perform water rescues. Participants will receive an American Red Cross lifeguarding, First Aid and CPR/AED for professional rescuer certificate. Participants must pass a pre-test before taking the course.

  • Waterfront Lifeguarding Pretest (Ages 15 years and above)

    Must pass the Pre-Test before taking the course. Pretest will be done on the first day of class. Upon successful completion of all sessions and skills, all candidates will be certified with Pool & Waterfront Lifeguard, First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer. The Waterfront Certification allows the student to also lifeguard at a lake. Please note that this is a blended learning course. Blended learning combines online learning with on-site skills sessions where you will practice skills and demonstrate competency. This cuts the class time significantly and allows you to watch the videos at your convenience. Please plan to complete the online lessons of your training at least two days prior to your first day. Participants must be 15 by the end of the course.

  • Waterfront Lifeguarding Certification Course (Ages 15 years and above)

    Participants must first register for and pass the Lifeguard Pretest. Upon successful pre-test completion, you payment method will be charged the balance for the course: $300 for Members and $350 for Non-Members.

    Blended Learning American Red Cross Waterfront Lifeguard Course. Course includes Pool and Waterfront Lifeguard, CPR/AED, and First Aid for the Professional Rescuer certifications. Curriculum includes classroom work, practical skills in the water and on land and two final written exams. Participants must be 15 by the end of the course. Attendance is required at all classes.

Babysitting Training (Ages 11 years and older)

This American Red Cross course is designed for students ages 11 years and older and teaches how to respond to emergencies with first aid and rescue breathing, making good decisions under pressure, communicating effectively with parents, recognizing safety and hygiene issues, managing young children, and how to feed, diaper and care for infants. This 6-hour, in-person course also provides some basic First Aid training, as well as basic tools for youth to manage a babysitting business. The cost is $125.

Candidates may swim using the front crawl, breaststroke, or a combination of both, but swimming on the back or side is not allowed. Swimming goggles may be used during the 300 yard swim. Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs. Candidates should place their hands under their armpits. Starting in the water, swim 20 yards, surface dive to a depth of 7-10 feet, retrieve a ten-pound object, return to the surface, swim 20 yards on back with both hands on the object and exit the water without using a ladder or steps, within 1 minute, 40 seconds. Goggles may not be worn during this swim.

  • Babysitter Training (Ages 11 years and above)

    This American Red Cross course is designed for students ages 11+ and provides them with the information and hands-on skills necessary to safely and responsibly care for infants and children up to the age of 11. It also provides youth with some tools on how to manage a babysitting business. In this class you learn how to: respond to emergencies with first aid and rescue breathing, make good decisions under pressure, communicate effectively with parents, recognize safety and hygiene issues, manage young children, and feed, diaper and care for infants. This 7-hour, in‑person course also provides some basic First Aid training.

    This will be an American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or an American Safety & Health Institute course that covers checking scene safety; legal considerations; addressing bleeding, burns, bone and muscle injuries; and sudden illnesses. Textbook is included.

    Classes are 2 hours 30 minutes long.
