Fitness for Teens

Healthy habits learned at an early age last a lifetime. The Y has a variety of wellness programs for teens, because healthy teens feel awesome, happy and empowered.

Our fitness, personal training and nutrition programs can help give teens the tools to be healthy and successful as they grow and develop their interests.

Group Exercise Classes (Ages 13 years and above)

At the Y, we continue to invigorate our fitness programs and add new group exercise classes to help improve your health and wellness. Our wide array of popular group exercise classes will help you stay fit, energized, and healthy. We encourage you to try something new! Equipment Orientations (Ages 13 years and above)

All members, 13 years and older, are encouraged to maximize their fitness regimen by getting a free orientation to all the fitness equipment in our Wellness Center. A Floor Supervisor will instruct members on the proper techniques for using the machines. Each orientation is about 30 minutes. Please wear comfortable workout clothes and sneakers.

Personal Training (Ages 10 years and above)
Exercise is not one-size-fits-all. What works for one person may not work for another. That’s why we offer personal training for adultsactive older adultsteens and kids. Let our certified personal trainers help you achieve your fitness goals through a program customized for you. They’ll encourage and motivate you as you make steady progress.

Personal training is available to members at an additional cost.

Teen Fitness Assessment (Ages 11 years and above)

One of our trained Wellness staff members will lead your teenager through a fitness assessment to evaluate and assess his/her current fitness level. Testing includes cardiovascular, strength, and flexibility metrics and can be used as a starting point on your teen’s wellness journey. There is a $25 assessment fee.

Family B. Fit Beginner Fitness Program (Ages 11 years and above)
Families can improve their physical and mental well-being utilizing our 8-week Beginner Fitness program at the Y. Wellness Coaches will track progress and write down goals. Suggestions will be given to the family to make healthier decisions both at home and at the Y.

  • Kinesis (Ages 13 years and above)
    Utilizing the Kinesis wall’s multi-functional equipment, this class enhances every exercise, from a simple squat to focused core stability movement. The set-up allows training for strength, balance, coordination and integrated movement all at once– elements that make workouts faster, more efficient and effective. Minimum 4 participants, maximum 5 participants. No classes the week of July 4th.  Classes are 30 minutes long.

  • Advanced Kettlebell (Ages 18 years and above)
    Join Beth Weinblatt, CPT for this small group training at Riverwalk that integrates cardio and bodyweight exercises to give you an all-around heart-pumping workout! Beth will focus on integrated breathing, movement and alignment to help you achieve your fitness goals. Minimum 4 participants, maximum 8 participants. Classes are 60 minutes long.

  • Sports Conditioning (Ages 14 years to 17 years)
    Proper sports conditioning is one of the safest and smartest things a serious athlete can do to maintain and enhance optimum performance. Led by trainer and Assistant Coach for Rutgers-Newark women’s soccer, Alexandra Nata, Sports Conditioning enables participants to gain the strength, power, flexibility and agility to do any type of sport-specific movement – even better! Minimum 4 participants, maximum 10 participants. No classes the week of July 4th. Classes are 60 minutes long.

Nutrition for Teens (All ages)

It’s never too early to start eating healthy! Our nutritionist will review your teen’s personal nutrition and wellness goals (weight loss, weight gain, weight maintenance, food allergies/avoidance, etc.) and help put them on the path to a healthy lifestyle. We’ll conduct a comprehensive nutritional assessment of current eating habits and suggest an individualized food plan, as well as provide useful behavioral strategies that include smart snacking, portion control, and more. Written dietary guidelines, as well as other nutritional materials and handouts will help track progress. For members only.
