Dance for Kids

Dance is a joyful, constructive outlet that allows kids to tap into their sense of discovery and self-expression. At our dance school, kids learn different techniques with patience and care. Learning to perform before an audience can help to boost self-assurance, pride and a sense of accomplishment. Let the dancer in your child shine!

Hillsborough YMCA

Dance Classes (Ages 3 years to 10 years)
  • Beginner Ballet (Ages 3 years to 4 years)

    Introduces little ones to dance vocabulary and technique while they learn the basic ballet positions and have fun.

    Classes are 30 minutes long.

  • Ballet (Ages 5 years to 7 years)

    Prior vocabulary and technique is reinforced and new vocabulary and technique is learned. Training in strength, balance, flexibility and discipline is begun.

    Classes are 45 minutes long.

  • Hip Hop (Ages 3 years to 7 years)

    Focuses on movement and technique in the energetic style of hip hop and jazz.

    Classes are 30 minutes long.

  • Tap (Ages 7 years to 10 years)
    Vocabulary and technique is learned and reinforced. Tap classes are designed to develop rhythm, style and sound. Students will learn a variety of tap styles from Broadway to Rhythm tap. Exercises focus on building flexibility of the knee and ankles, coordination, and speed of movement.

    Classes are 45 minutes long.

Dance Classes - Program Session (Ages 2 years to 9 years)
  • Kreative Kids Dance Class (Ages 2 years to 3 years)
    Introduces movement to young children. Child must be able to separate from parent/guardian.

    Classes are 30 minutes long.

  • Ballet/Tumble 1 Dance Class (Ages 3 years to 4 years)

    Introduces ballet skills, dance vocabulary and creative movement. Tumbling will reinforce body awareness and flexibility.

    Classes are 45 minutes long.

Dance School 2016-2017 (Ages 3 years and above)

The cumulative nature of our dance classes allows kids to learn dance, whether its ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical or hip hop, throughout the school year in preparation for our recital at the end of the year.

  • Ballet/Tumble 2 Dance Class (Ages 4 years to 5 years)

    Refines ballet and tumbling skills as well as adds to your child's dance vocabulary.  Classes are 45 minutes long.

  • Beginner Jazz Dance Class (Ages 6 years to 8 years)

    Enjoy learning basic technique for this fun style of dance. Classes are 45 minutes long.

  • Jazz/Tap Dance Class (Ages 6 years to 8 years)
    Polish your dance technique and learn new tap rhythms. Come enjoy this fun class that combines jazz and tap techniques!

  • Dance Team Technique (Ages 9 years and above)
    Interested in joining our dance team or already one of our team members? Come take this technique class that will incorporate all styles of dance technique.

Somerville YMCA

Dance Classes (Ages 3 years to 7 years)
  • Tiny Dancers (Ages 2 years to 4 years)
    Introduces the basic techniques for dance. Children will learn new styles of dance while having fun through movement and dance activities.

    Classes are 30 minutes long.

  • Beginner Ballet (Ages 3 years to 4 years)

    Introduces little ones to vocabulary and techniques of ballet combined with creative movements and fun dancing activities.

    Classes are 30 minutes long.

  • Intermediate Ballet (Ages 5 years to 7 years)
    Advances dancers' knowledge of ballet positions and dance vocabulary to take their technique to the next level.

    Classes for are 30 minutes long.

  • Hip Hop (Ages 4 years to 6 years)
    Focuses on movement and technique in the energetic style of hip hop and jazz.

    Classes are 30 minutes long.
