Our fitness, personal training and nutrition programs connect members with shared interests in a supportive environment. Through our array of fitness options, we help to lower the incidence of chronic disease and to create a healthier community.

Getting to Know You Program

Assessing your current fitness level is a good start to any fitness program. By establishing your baseline fitness measurements, you can accurately plan your exercise and track your progress.

For new members we offer, a free equipment orientation, a free health assessment and a free 30-minute personal training session.  To schedule an appointment, please contact Lisa Welsh at 908 369 0490 or email.

Equipment Orientations (Ages 13 years and above)

All members, 13 years and older, are encouraged to maximize their fitness regimen by getting a free orientation to all the fitness equipment in our Wellness Center. A Floor Supervisor will instruct members on the proper techniques for using the machines. Each orientation is about 30 minutes. Please wear comfortable workout clothes and sneakers.

B. Fit Beginner Fitness Program (Ages 18 years and above)

At the Y, we make it easier for you to take the first step to a healthier life. Our free 12-week Beginner Fitness (B. Fit) Program, for members aged 18+, is a guided fitness program where you'll learn how to use the fitness equipment and how to exercise safely. Plus, you’ll have one-on-one attention from our Wellness Coaches to create a fitness routine that helps you reach your personal goals.

  • Advanced Kettlebell (Ages 13 years and above)
    Looking for a workout that delivers the same aerobic benefits as running, without all the impact? Join our certified Personal Traininers for hands-on instruction in kettlebells! Torch fat, tone muscle, and define your core through proper movements. Small group sessions will combine cardio intervals with kettlebell-specific strength training and bodyweight exercises. Six-week session (must have 3 people to run the class). For Y members.

  • Open Pickleball

    This paddle sport is designed for all ages and skill levels. Simple rules make it perfect for beginners and it can develop into a fast-paced game. You'll get great exercise while having a ball!

  • Senior Strength Training (Ages 55 years and above)

    Did you know older adult functioning is positively influenced by weight training and cardiovascular exercise? Upon completion of this 6-week progressive class, led by a nationally certified personal trainer, you will have the confidence and knowledge to work out on your own.

    Classes are 60 minutes long.

Nutrition for All Ages

Join us monthly for nutrition seminars led by Samantha Nuzio, registered dietitian from the Hillsborough ShopRite. LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA
A holistic, free, small group, 12-week strength and wellness program for adult cancer patients and survivors who have become de-conditioned or chronically fatigued from their treatment and/or disease. We help patients build muscle mass and muscle strength, increase flexibility and endurance, and improve functional ability. The program can also help reduce the severity of therapy side effects, prevent unwanted weight changes, and improve energy levels and self-esteem. Participants learn to develop their own physical fitness program so they can continue to practice a healthy lifestyle as a way of life. Certified YMCA fitness instructors are trained in the elements of cancer, post rehab exercise, and supportive cancer care.

  • Kinesis (Ages 13 years and above)
    Utilizing the Kinesis wall’s multi-functional equipment, this class enhances every exercise, from a simple squat to focused core stability movement. The set-up allows training for strength, balance, coordination and integrated movement all at once– elements that make workouts faster, more efficient and effective. Minimum 4 participants, maximum 5 participants. No classes the week of July 4th.  Classes are 30 minutes long.

  • Golf Conditioning (Ages 18 years and above)
    The sport of golf demands specific strength and dynamic movement. Golf Conditioning is Intermediate/advanced level class, appropriate for those who have participated in resistance exercise using weights, bands or body weight for more than 2 years. Instructor Matt Tanner is a Golf Performance Specialist with over 20 years of experience in the field of professional strength and conditioning. Minimum 4 participants, maximum 8 participants. Classes are 45 minutes long.

    *These classes are not appropriate for members with spinal injuries, and/or are more than 25 lbs. overweight.

  • Advanced Kettlebell (Ages 18 years and above)
    Join Beth Weinblatt, CPT for this small group training at Riverwalk that integrates cardio and bodyweight exercises to give you an all-around heart-pumping workout! Beth will focus on integrated breathing, movement and alignment to help you achieve your fitness goals. Minimum 4 participants, maximum 8 participants. Classes are 60 minutes long.

  • Sports Conditioning (Ages 14 years to 17 years)
    Proper sports conditioning is one of the safest and smartest things a serious athlete can do to maintain and enhance optimum performance. Led by trainer and Assistant Coach for Rutgers-Newark women’s soccer, Alexandra Nata, Sports Conditioning enables participants to gain the strength, power, flexibility and agility to do any type of sport-specific movement – even better! Minimum 4 participants, maximum 10 participants. No classes the week of July 4th. Classes are 60 minutes long.

    Enhance®Fitness is an evidence-based group exercise program for older adults that uses simple, easy-to-learn movements that motivate individuals (particularly those with arthritis) to stay active throughout their life.

Nutrition for Adults

Define your personal nutrition and wellness goals and we'll help you achieve them. Following a comprehensive assessment, our nutritionist will suggest a personalized plan with behavioral strategies.   • Delay the Disease
    Somerset Hills YMCA now offers group exercise for people with Parkinson's disease. Delay the Disease is a fitness program designed to empower those living with Parkinson's disease by helping delay the progression of symptoms and successfully managing the disease. Held in GX2.

  • Adult Tap/Hip Hop Dance Class

    Come and enjoy this fun dance class with our adults. Meet new friends and learn some new moves!

    Classes are 1 hour long.

Wellness Classes & Hikes (Ages 12 years and above)
  • Recreational Walk

    Nature hikes, period of silent meditative walking leisurely to moderately paced, flat to gentle hills covering 2 to 4 miles. This walk is an introduction to hiking and a great opportunity to enjoy nature while building your skills on the trail. Weather permitting. Wednesdays at 10:00am.  $15 per event.

  • Outdoor Adventure Fitness Hikes

    Build endurance on this vigorous hike covering 6 to 8 miles of hilly terrain. This hike is about 2 to 3 hours and is for individuals who exercise 3 to 4 times a week. Weather permitting. Sign up is required; register at the Welcome Center. To receive weekly email updates and hike details, please email Susan Riggio.  Thursdays at 9:30am. $15 per event.

  • Cardio Challenge Hikes

    Expect to sweat on this fast paced hike covering 8 to 10 miles (or more) of hilly to steep terrain. This hike is about 4 hours long and is for experienced hikers who have an established endurance base. Sign up is required; register at the Welcome Center. Weather permitting. Tuesdays at 9:30am.  $15 per event.

  • Yoga at Clarence Fillon Library

    Learn the basics of Yoga as a gentle, effective approach to being fit. Registration is required. Limited to 50 spots.   • Triathlete Clinic

TRX Suspension Training (Adult)
Reach and exceed your fitness goals with TRX Suspension Training. It leverages gravity and the user's body weight to develop strength, endurance, balance, flexibility and core stability. Regardless of your fitness level (a pro athlete or "out of shape"), TRX takes you to the next level. Conducted in small groups and facilitated by a certified TRX instructor, the class is geared to get you in shape quickly and effectively.

Kinesis

Kinesis takes traditional exercises (like chest press or a row) and combines them with functional movements (like reaching, squatting, bending). It develops balance, core/overall strength, and flexibility for all fitness levels.

    Experience a variety of tap styles from Broadway to Rhythm tap. Exercises focus on building flexibility of the knees and ankles, coordination and speed of movement.5-week sessions.

    Classes are 45 minutes long.

Running Club (Ages 13 years and above)
For members 13 years and older. Enjoy the health benefits of running outdoors in a very social environment. Saturdays at 7:00am (60 minutes). Held indoors in inclement weather.
