Getting to Know You Program

For new members we offer, a free equipment orientation, a free health assessment, and a free 30-minute personal training session. Register for the program at the Welcome Center. You will be contacted by our Wellness Staff to schedule your appointment.

Equipment Orientations (Ages 13 years and above)

All members, 13 years and older, are encouraged to maximize their fitness regimen by getting a free orientation to all the fitness equipment in our Wellness Center. A Floor Supervisor will instruct members on the proper techniques for using the machines. Each orientation is about 30 minutes. We recommend wearing comfortable workout clothes and sneakers.

At the Y, we continue to invigorate our fitness programs and add new group exercise classes to help improve your health and wellness. Nutrition for All Ages

Join us monthly for nutrition seminars led by Samantha Nuzio, registered dietitian from the Hillsborough ShopRite. Hop 5K Training (Ages 7 years and above)

The Hillsborough YMCA Hop 5K brings families and the community together in a fun race that encourages everyone to strive for and reach a personal fitness goal. Our Running 101 and Running 102 programs are designed to run 8 weeks ending with the Hillsborough Hop 5K walk/run in the spring.

  • Running 101 (Ages 7 years to 12 years)

    Running 101 takes you from couch to 5K. Start with a run/walk, build to a full run, and end with the Hillsborough Hop 5K... all in 8 weeks! We’ll give you tips on proper attire, nutrition, stretching and running form. Program runs from March 30-May 25.

    Classes are 50 minutes long.

  • Running 101 (Ages 13 years and above)

Senior Fitness

Our Senior Adult fitness classes for active older adults include:

  • Pilates
  • Y Walking Club (during warm months, weather permitting)

All members interested in learning how to use the cardiovascular and strength equipment may request a fitness orientation. These are free of charge.

  • Open Pickleball

    This paddle sport is designed for all ages and skill levels. Simple rules make it perfect for beginners and it can develop into a fast-paced game. You'll get great exercise while having a ball!

  • Senior Strength Training (Ages 55 years and above)

    Did you know older adult functioning is positively influenced by weight training and cardiovascular exercise? Upon completion of this 6-week progressive class, led by a nationally certified personal trainer, you will have the confidence and knowledge to work out on your own. Class runs February 2-March 8.

    Classes are 60 minutes long.

Women on Weights (Ages 13 years and above)
  • Women on Weights

    Lifting weights has many benefits - improves heart and bone health, builds muscle and burns fat. Women on Weights (WOW) is a fun, personalized, 6-week weight training program designed just for women and led by our certified Personal Trainers.

    Membership is required.

B. Fit Beginner Fitness Program (Ages 18 years and above)

Sometimes, the hardest part about getting started on living a healthier life is taking the first step. At the Y, we make it easier for you! Our 12-week B. Fit Program is free to Y members and will set you off on the right foot. In the private fitness space, you’ll learn how to use the fitness equipment properly to be sure you are exercising safely. Plus, you’ll have one-on-one attention from our Wellness Coaches to create a fitness routine that helps you reach your personal goals.

LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA
A holistic, free, small group, 12-week strength and wellness program for adult cancer patients and survivors who have become de-conditioned or chronically fatigued from their treatment and/or disease. We help patients build muscle mass and muscle strength, increase flexibility and endurance, and improve functional ability. The program can also help reduce the severity of therapy side effects, prevent unwanted weight changes, and improve energy levels and self-esteem. Participants learn to develop their own physical fitness program so they can continue to practice a healthy lifestyle as a way of life. Certified YMCA fitness instructors are trained in the elements of cancer, post rehab exercise, and supportive cancer care.

  • Adult Tap/Hip Hop Dance Class

    Come and enjoy this fun dance class with our adults. Meet new friends and learn some new moves!

    Classes are 1 hour long.

     

Kinesis

Kinesis takes traditional exercises (like chest press or a row) and combines them with functional movements (like reaching, squatting, bending). It develops balance, core/overall strength, and flexibility for all fitness levels.

Outdoor Adventure
  • Cardio Challenge Hikes

    Expect to sweat on this fast paced hike covering 8 to 10 miles (or more) of hilly to steep terrain. This hike is about 4 hours long and is for experienced hikers who have an established endurance base. Weather permitting. Sign up is required.

  • Fitness Hikes

    Build endurance on this vigorous hike covering 6 to 8 miles of hilly terrain. This hiike is about 2 to 3 hours and is for individuals who exercise 3 to 4 times a week. Weather permitting. Sign up is required. To receive weekly email updates and hike details, please email Susan Riggio.

  • Recreational Walk

    Nature hikes, period of silent meditative walking leisurely to moderately paced, flat to gentle hills covering 2 to 4 miles. This walk is an introduction to hiking and a great opportunity to enjoy nature while building your skills on the trail. Weather permitting.

TRX Suspension Training (Adult)
Reach and exceed your fitness goals with TRX Suspension Training. It leverages gravity and the user's body weight to develop strength, endurance, balance, flexibility and core stability. Regardless of your fitness level (a pro athlete or "out of shape"), TRX takes you to the next level. Conducted in small groups and facilitated by a certified TRX instructor, the class is geared to get you in shape quickly and effectively.
